Rachel Israel, CNM

Southeast Clinician Rachel Israel Certified Nurse Midwife

Nurse Midwife

Rachel Israel, MSN, CNM, APRN is a full-scope certified nurse midwife. She has been caring for women since 2004, first in the hospital setting then in private practice.  Rachel graduated from Shenandoah University in 2004 with her Bachelor of Science in Nursing. She received her Master of Science in Nursing and certificate of Midwifery from University of Kansas School of Medicine and Health Sciences.

Rachel sees patients for preconception counseling, pregnancy, annual exams, contraceptive management, postpartum care and hormone replacement therapy. Her obstetrical experience encompasses all aspects of labor and delivery, including preterm gestation, induction of labor, high-risk pregnancies and assisting with cesarean sections.

Her favorite aspect of providing midwifery care is her ability to develop a relationship with her patients in the office prior to pregnancy and the continuation of that bond throughout their obstetrical visits and afterward.  She thoroughly enjoys seeing them frequently as their babies grow and being present as they lay eyes on their child for the first time. She is an advocate for helping patient’s help themselves through taking the time to teach and explain.

She has privileges at Johnston Memorial Hospital and is an active member of ACNM and Sigma Theta Tau. Rachel’s personal interests include adolescent pregnancy, menstrual disorders and moderately invasive birth control.

Rachel and her family relocated to Clayton from Kansas City with the goal of becoming active members of the community. She and her husband, Matt, have been married since 2004. Matt is an Electrical and Computers Engineer for Duke Energy. They have two daughters – Ellie and Kate, and two furry children Chip and Parker (a Miniature Schnauzer and Golden Retriever).

Rachel enjoys anything related to group fitness – spin, kick boxing, Pilates, Zumba. As a family, they follow Navy Football (her husband is a Naval Academy Graduate). GO NAVY! BEAT ARMY! While living near the coast is a relatively new concept for her, that’s why they’re here: they love the water!

Interesting Fact

Those who have not met Rachel in person do not appreciate that she is relatively vertically challenged. Standing at a whopping five feet, it’s hard not to notice. Her younger sister (by 7 yrs) is 6’1 and equally uncomfortable with her height. This definitely posed quandaries in their childhood years, but they’ve grown to accept it and compensate with their lively personalities!
